Jeremiah 6:16

Yahweh says, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, ‘Where is the good way?’ and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

What does Jeremiah 6:16 mean?

God is inviting His people to pause, look around carefully, and ask for wisdom about the time-tested ways of living that bring genuine peace and flourishing. The "old paths" aren't about being stuck in the past, but about values and practices that have proven to lead toward wholeness, belonging with God, and inner rest. Yet the passage acknowledges a hard truth: many people hear this invitation and refuse it anyway, choosing instead to chase after things that leave them restless and empty. If you're exhausted or searching for something real, this verse gently suggests that sometimes the deepest peace comes not from chasing the newest thing, but from returning to what's actually true and good, even if that means swimming against the current of our culture.
