What does Jeremiah 43:5 mean?
After the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem, a small group of Jewish survivors had returned home to rebuild their lives. Johanan and the military leaders, however, decided to disobey God's word through the prophet Jeremiah and force all these remaining people to flee to Egypt instead, fearing Babylonian reprisals. This verse shows how leaders sometimes drag entire communities into decisions made from fear rather than faith, even when God has spoken clearly through His prophet. The tragedy is that these exhausted survivors, having already endured exile and loss, are now compelled to abandon their homeland once again by those meant to protect them.
