So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, didn’t obey Yahweh’s voice, to dwell in the land of Judah.

What does Jeremiah 43:4 mean?

After the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem, the prophet Jeremiah told the surviving remnant to stay in their homeland and trust God. Instead, the military leaders and people decided to flee to Egypt, convinced that staying meant danger. Their refusal to listen to God's word through Jeremiah shows a pattern that runs throughout the Bible: when we're afraid, we often choose what feels safe over what requires faith. It's a sobering reminder that disobedience usually comes dressed up as practical wisdom, but it closes us off from God's actual guidance and protection.
