What does Jeremiah 36:24 mean?
When King Jehoiakim heard the words of God through the prophet Jeremiah, he and his court refused to respond with the fear and repentance that such a message was meant to stir. Tearing garments was a common sign of grief, shame, or spiritual alarm in that culture, so their refusal to do so showed stubborn resistance. The point isn't just that they stayed calm, but that they heard truth about their own unfaithfulness and judgment, and their hearts remained unmoved and closed. Sometimes the hardest part of faith isn't doubt or confusion, but a will that simply won't bend toward what we know is true.
