What does Jeremiah 36:23 mean?
King Jehoiakim is rejecting God's word through the prophet Jeremiah with a gesture of contempt and rage. Rather than listen to the message of warning and repentance, he literally slices up the scroll and throws it into the fire piece by piece, destroying it entirely. It's a vivid picture of active rebellion, not passive indifference. What makes this moment powerful is that the king thinks he's erasing God's message by destroying the physical object, but God simply tells Jeremiah to write it all again, and to add even more judgment against the king for his defiance. It reminds us that no amount of human resistance can ultimately silence what God wants to say, even when the cost of speaking truth feels impossibly high.
