Jeremiah 29:14
“I will be found by you,” says Yahweh, “and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you, says Yahweh. I will bring you again to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.””
What does Jeremiah 29:14 mean?
God is making a promise here that even in exile, even when circumstances feel impossibly broken, He hasn't abandoned His people. The promise has two layers: first, that seeking Him will actually work—He will be found by those who look for Him. Second, that He will actively restore what was lost, gathering scattered people and bringing them home. This came to the people of Judah during their darkest moment, deported to Babylon with their temple destroyed. Yet God was telling them their captivity wasn't permanent or final. The deeper comfort in this is that restoration isn't something we have to earn or figure out on our own—it's something God initiates and completes.
