Jeremiah 29:15
“Because you have said, “Yahweh has raised us up prophets in Babylon;””
What does Jeremiah 29:15 mean?
This verse captures the Israelites' defensive response during their exile in Babylon. The people were claiming they had legitimate prophets among them in that foreign land, as if to justify their situation or prove God hadn't abandoned them there. It's the kind of thing people say when they're trying to convince themselves (and others) that everything is actually fine, even when circumstances suggest otherwise. What makes this significant is that Jeremiah is about to challenge this very claim, revealing that many of these supposed prophets were actually misleading the exiles with false promises of a quick return home.
