What does Jeremiah 28:14 mean?
God is telling the people through the prophet Jeremiah that He has allowed Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, to become a powerful ruler over many nations, and this situation will continue. The "yoke of iron" is a picture of slavery or forced submission, showing how complete and inescapable this control will be. God isn't saying this because He favors Babylon, but because the nations (including Judah) have turned away from Him, and this hardship is meant to bring them back to Him. Even when circumstances feel overwhelming and our freedom seems completely lost, this passage reminds us that God remains in control of history and uses difficult seasons for purposes we may not immediately understand.
