Jeremiah 23:37
“You will say to the prophet, ‘What has Yahweh answered you?’ and, ‘What has Yahweh spoken?’”
What does Jeremiah 23:37 mean?
This verse captures a moment of spiritual confusion and burden. People are pestering the prophet, demanding to know what God has said, as if the prophet is just a messenger they can interrupt and interrogate whenever they want. There's an exhausted quality to it, the sense that everyone thinks they deserve an instant divine report. Jeremiah himself experienced this pressure constantly, and this verse reflects the weariness of someone called to speak for God in a time when people either didn't want to hear the message or wanted it on their own terms. It's a reminder that seeking God's word with genuine openness is very different from treating a person of faith like a spiritual vending machine where you can push the button and get an answer.
