Jeremiah 23:36
“You will mention the message from Yahweh no more: for every man’s own word has become his message; for you have perverted the words of the living God, of Yahweh of Armies, our God.”
What does Jeremiah 23:36 mean?
God is warning the people through Jeremiah that by twisting his words to fit their own desires, they've lost the ability to hear him clearly at all. What started as people bending God's message to suit themselves has become so distorted that they can no longer distinguish between God's actual word and their own preferences. It's like listening to a song played through so many broken speakers that you forget what the original sounded ever sounded like. The prophet is essentially saying that when we persistently reshape God's truth to match what we want to hear, we end up spiritually deaf, unable to recognize his voice anymore.
