What does Jeremiah 23:26 mean?
Jeremiah is expressing God's frustration with false prophets who were misleading the people of Judah, speaking whatever their own desires dictated rather than God's actual word. These weren't necessarily people who consciously set out to deceive, but those who had become so attached to their own ideas and agendas that they convinced themselves they were speaking for God. The question "How long?" carries both impatience and heartbreak, as if asking when this pattern of self-deception will finally end. This matters beyond ancient times because we all face the temptation to believe what we want to hear and convince others it's true.
