“What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him?”
What does James 2:14 mean?
James is asking a pointed question about what faith actually means in real life. If someone claims to trust God but never acts on that trust, never helps others, never changes how they live—then what kind of faith is that really? It's like saying you believe a chair will hold you up while refusing to sit on it. This doesn't mean we earn salvation through good deeds. Rather, James is saying that genuine faith naturally overflows into action, the way a healthy tree naturally produces fruit. When faith is real and alive, it changes us. If our beliefs never touch how we treat people or what we do with our lives, then something's missing from the picture.
