Isaiah 66:2
“For my hand has made all these things, and so all these things came to be,” says Yahweh: “but to this man will I look, even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.”
What does Isaiah 66:2 mean?
God is saying that while he holds all of creation in his hands, what actually captures his attention and care is something very different from power or status. He's drawn to the person who knows their own smallness, who carries the weight of their own failures or brokenness, and who takes his word seriously enough to be moved by it. This is deeply comforting for anyone feeling insignificant or struggling. It means that being poor in spirit (aware of your need) or trembling before God (taking him seriously) isn't a disadvantage in his eyes, it's exactly what opens a real connection with him. The contrast is stark: God made everything, yes, but his gaze rests on the humble heart, not on impressive exteriors or self-sufficiency.
