Isaiah 66:1
“Yahweh says, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me? Where will I rest?”
What does Isaiah 66:1 mean?
God is reminding us here that he's not confined to any building or location, no matter how grand. He's speaking to people who wanted to construct a magnificent temple to honor him, and he's gently pointing out that the entire cosmos is already his dwelling place. The real question isn't about constructing a physical structure, but about the kind of heart and life we're building for him instead. When God asks where he will rest, he's inviting us to create space for him through our obedience, worship, and presence, which matters far more than any stone or gold.
