Isaiah 59:2
“But your iniquities have separated you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.”
What does Isaiah 59:2 mean?
The prophet Isaiah is describing how sin creates distance between us and God, not because God abandons us, but because wrongdoing puts a barrier in the relationship. When we're caught in patterns of harm and selfishness, it becomes harder to sense God's presence or feel heard when we pray. The image of God's "hidden face" captures that painful disconnect, like when shame or guilt makes us afraid to look someone in the eye. Isaiah isn't saying this separation is permanent or that God has stopped loving us, but rather naming something many people recognize: that broken living makes us feel spiritually distant and unheard.
