What does Isaiah 30:3 mean?
When Isaiah's people are tempted to turn to Egypt for military protection instead of trusting God, the prophet warns them it will backfire badly. Relying on a human power—no matter how impressive it seems—won't give them what they actually need, and the shame comes when that alliance fails and they're left exposed. The image of seeking refuge in Egypt's shadow suggests looking for safety in the wrong place, like someone thinking a mirage will shelter them. Isaiah is inviting his listeners to notice the difference between the security that human nations promise and the genuine strength that only comes from trust in God.
