Isaiah 27:4
“Wrath is not in me, but if I should find briers and thorns, I would do battle! I would march on them and I would burn them together.”
What does Isaiah 27:4 mean?
God is saying here that anger doesn't define His character, but He will absolutely respond to what harms His people. The "briers and thorns" represent obstacles, enemies, or anything that stands against His purposes and protection. What makes this tender is what comes right before it: God has been describing Himself as a gardener tending a vineyard (His people). So this isn't about God being quick-tempered; it's about a caretaker who's patient and protective. He's essentially saying, "I'm not angry by nature, but don't mistake my gentleness for weakness."
