Hosea 8:11
βBecause Ephraim has multiplied altars for sinning, they became for him altars for sinning.β
What does Hosea 8:11 mean?
Ephraim (the northern kingdom of Israel) kept building more and more places to worship idols, thinking that adding altars would somehow fix their broken relationship with God. Instead, all these altars just became monuments to their sin, deepening their problem rather than solving it. The passage captures something painfully human: we can convince ourselves we're seeking God or trying to make things right, when really we're just repeating the same mistakes in fancier ways. Sometimes what we think will save us only binds us more tightly to the very thing hurting us.
