Hosea 8:10
“But although they sold themselves among the nations, I will now gather them; and they begin to waste away because of the oppression of the king of mighty ones.”
What does Hosea 8:10 mean?
Hosea speaks here to Israel during a time when the nation was making alliances with foreign powers, essentially "selling themselves" by depending on other nations instead of on God. Despite their unfaithfulness and the suffering that followed (oppression from Assyria, the dominant empire of that time), God promises He will still gather His people back to Himself. There's a tender paradox in these words: judgment and restoration exist together. Israel will experience the painful consequences of their choices, yet God hasn't abandoned them. Even in the midst of their decline and the weight of foreign rule pressing down on them, God sees them and will reclaim them.
