Hosea 7:14

What does Hosea 7:14 mean?
The prophet Hosea is describing people who go through the motions of calling out to God, but their hearts aren't really in it. Their cries are like animal sounds made in desperation or habit, not genuine prayers, while they're actually busy pursuing comfort and pleasure. What makes this painful is the contrast: they're willing to gather and be intentional about getting food and wine, but they won't apply that same sincerity or effort to their relationship with God. Hosea is capturing a kind of spiritual carelessness, where people want God's help when things go wrong but won't turn toward Him with honest devotion when things are fine.
