Hosea 7:13
“Woe to them! For they have wandered from me. Destruction to them! For they have trespassed against me. Though I would redeem them, yet they have spoken lies against me.”
What does Hosea 7:13 mean?
God expresses deep grief here, not cruel anger. He's watching people turn away from him and then compound the problem by lying about who he is and what he does. The "woe" and "destruction" aren't punishments he's gleefully inflicting, but rather the natural consequences of rejecting the one source of genuine life and protection. What makes this especially painful is that phrase "though I would redeem them." God's door remains open even as they're walking out of it. He's willing to restore and heal them, but they're actively resisting by spreading falsehoods about him instead of turning back. Sometimes the hardest part of returning to God isn't whether he'll accept us, but whether we'll let go of the stories we've told ourselves about why we left in the first place.
