What does Hosea 10:14 mean?
This is one of the hardest verses in Scripture, describing the devastating consequences of Israel's unfaithfulness to God. Shalman's destruction of Beth Arbel was a real historical atrocity that the prophet uses as a comparison, showing that what befell other nations in war would now come upon Israel herself because of her rejection of God's ways. The imagery of mothers and children being destroyed speaks to the totality of the coming judgment, not sparing even the vulnerable.
