Hebrews 2:13
“Again, “I will put my trust in him.” Again, “Behold, here I am with the children whom God has given me.””
What does Hebrews 2:13 mean?
This passage weaves together two Old Testament quotes to show Jesus as fully human and fully part of God's family. The first part, about putting trust in God, reflects Jesus's own posture of dependence and faith, even in his earthly life. The second part presents Jesus as a kind of elder brother to all believers, standing alongside us as God's beloved children rather than apart from us. What makes this comforting is that Jesus isn't distant or separate from our struggles. He took on real flesh, real vulnerability, and real trust in God, which means he truly understands the human experience. When we're learning to trust God ourselves, we're following a path that Jesus walked first.
