Haggai 2:5
“This is the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit lived among you. ‘Don’t be afraid.’”
What does Haggai 2:5 mean?
God reminds the people rebuilding the temple that he made promises to their ancestors long ago when they escaped Egypt, and he's kept his presence with them ever since. Now, facing the enormous task of reconstructing their destroyed temple with limited resources, they're discouraged and afraid. God's message cuts through that fear by pointing backward to his faithfulness and reminding them that his Spirit hasn't abandoned them—he's still there, still with them, just as he was in the wilderness. When the work feels impossible or your situation feels overwhelming, this is about remembering that the God who has walked with you before hasn't suddenly stepped away.
