Haggai 2:4
“Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says Yahweh. ‘Be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ says Yahweh, ‘and work, for I am with you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.”
What does Haggai 2:4 mean?
God is speaking directly to the leaders and people rebuilding the temple after exile, telling them to push through their discouragement and keep going. The repeated command to "be strong" isn't about feeling confident, but about choosing courage and perseverance even when the work feels overwhelming or the results seem small compared to what was lost. The promise "I am with you" is what makes that strength possible, not willpower alone, and God backs it up by calling himself "Yahweh of Armies," reminding them of his power and protection.
