What does Genesis 47:24 mean?
During Egypt's severe famine, Joseph had proposed a plan where the people would give one-fifth of their harvest to Pharaoh in exchange for seed and survival through the crisis. This verse describes the terms that became the new arrangement: the people would keep four-fifths for themselves to replant, eat, and feed their families, while Pharaoh would receive one-fifth as payment for the grain stored during the abundance years.
