What does Genesis 47:25 mean?

When famine devastated Egypt and the surrounding lands, Joseph had already stockpiled grain during the years of plenty. People came to him desperate and hungry, and he sold them grain, eventually acquiring their land and making them servants to Pharaoh in exchange for their survival.
