Genesis 37:16
“He said, “I am looking for my brothers. Tell me, please, where they are feeding the flock.””
What does Genesis 37:16 mean?
Joseph is searching for his brothers in the fields, asking a stranger for help finding them. This simple question carries weight because Joseph was sent by his father Jacob to check on his older brothers, who were tending sheep far from home. What starts as an innocent errand will lead to a turning point in Joseph's life, as his brothers, jealous of his favored status and his dreams of future leadership, will soon betray him. In this moment, Joseph is still unaware of what's coming, which makes his earnest question poignant. Sometimes we ask straightforward questions not knowing how our answer will reshape our entire story.
