Genesis 35:2
“Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments.”
What does Genesis 35:2 mean?
Jacob is calling his whole household to spiritual readiness before approaching God at Bethel. He's asking them to let go of idols they've picked up from surrounding cultures, wash themselves clean, and put on fresh clothes, both as practical preparation and as outward signs of inner commitment. It's the kind of thing you might do before meeting someone important, except here the "someone" is God himself. The passage shows us that drawing near to God sometimes means releasing what doesn't belong in our relationship with him, even things that seemed normal or harmless before.
