Genesis 33:14
“Please let my lord pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.””
What does Genesis 33:14 mean?
Jacob is speaking here after years of running from his brother Esau, and they've just reunited. Esau has offered to travel together, but Jacob is being thoughtful and honest about what will actually work. He's saying, "You go ahead at your pace, and I'll follow with my family and animals at a slower speed that keeps everyone safe and cared for." There's something beautiful in Jacob's response.
