Genesis 33:15
“Esau said, “Let me now leave with you some of the folk who are with me.” He said, “Why? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.””
What does Genesis 33:15 mean?
After years of separation and fear, Jacob and Esau have just reunited. Esau is offering to leave some of his men behind to travel with Jacob and help protect his family, but Jacob politely refuses. His words reveal something touching: he's saying he doesn't need the extra security because having his brother's goodwill is enough. Jacob had spent twenty years dreading this meeting, convinced Esau would harm him, but now that reconciliation has happened, he wants nothing more than Esau's favor and blessing. The refusal is gentle and respectful, acknowledging Esau's generous offer while essentially saying, "Your acceptance of me is the greatest help you could give."
