What does Genesis 32:5 mean?
Jacob is speaking here, and he's nervous. He's about to meet his brother Esau for the first time in twenty years, and their last encounter ended badly, with Jacob stealing Esau's birthright and blessing. Now Jacob is listing all his possessions, his wealth and his household, because he's hoping these gifts might somehow repair the relationship and make Esau willing to forgive him.
