What does Genesis 32:15 mean?

Jacob is listing out the massive gift he's sending ahead to his brother Esau, hoping to smooth things over after years of estrangement and the complicated past between them. These aren't random numbers—they add up to a genuinely impressive present, meant to show humility and genuine desire for reconciliation. When we're facing someone we've wronged or relationships that are broken, sometimes a sincere, costly gesture is part of how we begin to make things right. Jacob understood that showing up empty-handed wouldn't work, so he put real resources behind his attempt at peace.
