What does Genesis 3:9 mean?
After Adam and Eve eat from the forbidden tree, they hide in shame among the garden's trees. When God calls out "Where are you?", he's not asking because he doesn't know Adam's location, but because something has broken in their relationship. It's the question of someone who notices absence, who sees that trust has fractured. This moment invites us into something tender: God doesn't thunder with judgment first. He asks. He creates space for Adam to come forward, to speak, to name what happened. Even when we've made choices that separate us from God, this verse reminds us that God still calls out, still looks for us, still wants to be in relationship with us.
