Genesis 29:7
“He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.””
What does Genesis 29:7 mean?
When Jacob arrives at the well where Rachel tends her family's sheep, Laban (her father) points out that it's only midday—far too early to bring the animals in for the evening. He's essentially telling Jacob to get to work, encouraging him to water and feed the sheep properly before the day is done. It's a practical reminder that there's still plenty of daylight and responsibility left to handle. In this moment, we see Laban beginning to size up this stranger who's shown up at their well, and Jacob will soon demonstrate his willingness to labor hard for the woman he loves.
