Genesis 29:8

What does Genesis 29:8 mean?
The shepherds Jacob meets at the well are explaining their work routine to him. They can't water their flocks until everyone arrives with their sheep, because the well has a heavy stone covering its opening that requires multiple people to move. It's a practical detail that shows how communal effort was sometimes necessary for basic survival in that time and place. When Jacob sees Rachel approaching with her father's flock, his willingness to roll away the stone alone (just a few verses later) becomes a touching gesture of strength and eagerness, revealing his character and his immediate attraction to her.
