Genesis 29:5
“He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.””
What does Genesis 29:5 mean?
Jacob is asking some shepherds by a well if they know his uncle Laban, hoping to find his way to his father's brother's home. The shepherds' quick "yes" is a small moment of grace, a sign that the person Jacob is searching for is nearby and known in the community. It's a simple exchange, but it carries the weight of someone far from home trying to find their way to safety and family. Sometimes what we're looking for turns out to be closer and more findable than we feared.
