Genesis 29:4
“Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.””
What does Genesis 29:4 mean?
Jacob has just arrived at a well in a foreign land, and he encounters some shepherds. Rather than assuming who they are, he asks where they're from, showing curiosity and openness to connection. When they tell him they're from Haran, it's actually a significant moment, because that's exactly where Jacob's uncle Laban lives, and Jacob is traveling to find him. This simple exchange is the beginning of Jacob finding his way to family and safety after fleeing his home. Sometimes asking genuine questions and paying attention to the answers opens doors we need to walk through.
