Genesis 15:7
“He said to Abram, “I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it.””
What does Genesis 15:7 mean?
God reminds Abram of who he is by pointing to what he's already done, establishing trust as the foundation for the promise that follows. The mention of bringing him out of Ur (his homeland in ancient Mesopotamia) wasn't just a geographical move, but a call that required Abram to leave everything familiar and step into the unknown. By anchoring his promise in past faithfulness, God is essentially saying, "You've already seen what I can do, so believe me when I tell you what comes next." This pattern still speaks to us today: when we're uncertain about God's promises, we can look back at how he's shown up before.
