Genesis 15:8
“He said, “Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?””
What does Genesis 15:8 mean?
Abram has just heard God's promise that his descendants will possess the land, but he's wrestling with a very human question: how can he be sure? He's not being disrespectful, but genuinely confused about how this inheritance will actually happen, especially since he and his wife have no children yet. His question reflects the gap between God's promise and what seems possible in the real world, something many of us understand when we're asked to trust something we can't yet see. What comes next is God responding by making a covenant with Abram, sealing the promise in a way that was meaningful and binding in their culture.
