What does Genesis 12:18 mean?
Pharaoh has just discovered that Abram lied about Sarah being his sister when she was actually his wife. Abram had feared for his life in Egypt and thought the deception would protect him, but it put Sarah in real danger instead, as Pharaoh had taken her into his household. Pharaoh's anger here is justified, even though he's speaking to someone who would become the father of God's chosen people, the shame and consequences of Abram's dishonesty follow anyway. This moment reminds us that fear-driven lies tend to backfire and hurt the people we claim to love, and that God's plans aren't derailed by our failures, though we may still face the natural results of them.
