What does Genesis 12:17 mean?
When Abram took his wife Sarai to Egypt during a famine, he asked her to say she was his sister rather than his wife, fearing he'd be killed for her. Pharaoh welcomed her into his household, but God stepped in with serious illnesses and troubles to protect her and stop the deception. This moment shows that God's protection extends even when our faith falters and we resort to dishonesty, and that consequences follow when we misuse relationships for our own safety. The plague wasn't punishment for Sarai, but rather God's way of redirecting a situation that had gone wrong, ultimately preserving both her honor and the promise God had made to Abram.
