Galatians 2:18
“For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker.”
What does Galatians 2:18 mean?
Paul is talking about a real tension in his own spiritual life. He had once lived by strict religious rules, but after meeting Jesus, he realized those rules weren't what saved him. Now, if he went back to living as though those old laws were what mattered most, he'd be undoing his own transformation and proving that his old way was actually the right one after all. This speaks to something many of us face: the temptation to slip back into old habits or old ways of thinking after we've moved forward. Whether that's perfectionism, shame-based living, or rigid thinking patterns, returning to them would contradict what we've learned about grace and freedom. Paul's point is that consistency matters. Our lives should reflect what we actually believe is true about God and about ourselves.
