What does Ezekiel 24:26 mean?

When Jerusalem fell to Babylon, the prophet Ezekiel had just lost his wife, yet God told him not to mourn publicly as a sign to the people. This verse refers to that moment: a survivor will arrive at Ezekiel's door with news of the city's destruction, and his ears will finally hear the confirmation of what he'd been prophesying all along. It's a poignant detail about how even a prophet waits for reality to catch up with what God has already shown him. There's something deeply human in that waiting, that need to hear the truth spoken aloud, even when you already know it in your heart.
