Ezekiel 24:25
““You, son of man, shouldn’t it be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their heart, their sons and their daughters,”
What does Ezekiel 24:25 mean?
God is telling Ezekiel that a terrible loss is coming: the destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of its people. When this happens, the things that made life feel meaningful and joyful—their physical strength, their pride, what they loved to look at and cherish, and most painfully, their own children—will be taken away. This is a hard word, but it's meant to help Ezekiel understand why God is allowing such devastation. The people had turned away from God and built their lives around false securities and idols instead of faithfulness. Sometimes the only way God can get our attention is by removing the things we've mistakenly put our trust in. If you're going through loss right now, this verse acknowledges that such pain is real and overwhelming, even when there's a deeper purpose beneath it.
