Ezekiel 13:11
“Tell those who plaster it with whitewash that it will fall. There will be an overflowing shower; and you, great hailstones, will fall. A stormy wind will tear it.”
What does Ezekiel 13:11 mean?
Ezekiel is speaking to false prophets who have been giving people false comfort and security with their empty promises, much like covering a crumbling wall with whitewash to hide its structural problems. He's warning that no amount of reassuring words can protect people from the consequences of ignoring God's truth, just as paint cannot save a weakened wall from the rain and wind. When real trials come (the rain and hail), the whole structure collapses, and those who trusted the false prophets are left exposed and vulnerable. The image captures something painfully real: sometimes what feels safest, the quick reassurance we want to hear, leaves us least prepared for what's actually coming.
