Ezekiel 11:13
“When I prophesied, Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down on my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, “Ah Lord Yahweh! will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?””
What does Ezekiel 11:13 mean?
Ezekiel has just been witnessing God's judgment against the leaders of Jerusalem, and when he speaks God's word, one of those leaders, Pelatiah, suddenly dies right there. The shock of it drops Ezekiel to the ground in grief and desperation, crying out to God with an anguished question: Are you going to destroy everyone who's left? This moment captures something deeply human about witnessing God's judgment: it's not abstract or distant, but terrifying and real. Ezekiel isn't being punished himself, yet he's so overwhelmed by what he's seeing that he collapses. His cry reflects both his love for his people and his confusion, because he can't reconcile what appears to be total destruction with any hope of a future.
