Exodus 3:14

What does Exodus 3:14 mean?
When Moses asks God for his name, God responds with something that sounds mysterious but is actually profound: "I AM WHO I AM." This isn't evasive, it's a declaration of God's complete self-sufficiency and reality. God exists on his own terms, not dependent on anything or anyone else, and he's essentially saying "I am what I am, take it or leave it." For the Israelites enslaved in Egypt, this would have been radical comfort. They're being told that the God sending Moses to rescue them isn't a distant, uncertain deity, but the God who simply IS, eternally and unchangeably present. Whatever they face ahead, this God won't disappear or fail them because his existence isn't conditional on circumstances.
