What does Exodus 23:30 mean?

God is promising the Israelites that he won't hand them the promised land all at once, but will give them victory gradually as they grow stronger and more numerous. This wasn't just a practical strategy, it also meant the land wouldn't be left empty and vulnerable to wild animals and other dangers during a sudden takeover. There's something reassuring here for anyone facing a big challenge: sometimes God works slowly, building us up step by step rather than overwhelming us with everything at once. The pace of gradual progress often gives us time to develop the strength, wisdom, and community we'll need to actually inhabit and steward what we're being given.
