What does Esther 5:12 mean?

Haman is bragging about his status and closeness to power, boasting that Queen Esther invited only him to her private banquet with the king. He's feeling important and honored, which makes his pride run especially deep. The cruel irony, which unfolds as the story continues, is that this very invitation will become the setting where his downfall begins, and all his self-importance will mean nothing when his true nature is exposed. It's a poignant reminder that confidence in our own importance or security can blind us to what's really coming.
